AN INTRO TO PLANT BASED DYES
Join us for an extra special Master Class with guest teacher Coco Villa of SOMOS by CocoNuco. We are super excited because we love natural dyeing and have been looking for an excuse to dive in! Coco is a sustainable fashion designer, botanical dyer, and performance artist based in Asheville, North Carolina. She’ll be hosting her Nature’s Notebook workshop in our studio on Saturday, January 26th. Check out her work on Instagram at @somosbycoconuco.
In this workshop, you will learn about botanical colors and shapes for a more technical approach to natural dyeing. We will break down recipes to make fibers colorfast, create our own color concoction, collect swatches for each dye bath, move through an observational drawing session, extract color from local plant matter or scraps, and cover each native dye’s medicinal uses. You will leave with a notebook documenting nature’s colors, detailed recipes, and beautiful illustrations! No experience is needed in order to attend.
Colors will come from flowers, fungi, food waste, and other plant and earth-based materials. We support thoughtful foraging and community gardens.
All materials will be provided, including a notebook.
No experience is needed in order to attend.
We’ll also have coffee and light snacks.
