Downtown Brooklyn Public Art & Placemaking Fund *Applications Due 8/17/20*

I live and work in Downtown Brooklyn/DUMBO, so I am extremely excited to share that the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) and DUMBO Improvement District (DUMBO) just announced a $600,000 fund for Public Art & Placemaking projects! The fund is part of New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) which Brooklyn received recently and which includes a bunch of other awesome initiatives.

The Downtown Brooklyn Public Art + Placemaking Fund will grant awards of up to $50,000 for public art and performance projects and improvements to cultural spaces. Individual artists, performers, cultural producers, for-profit, and/or non-profit organizations can apply and you do not need to live in Brooklyn to apply, but the project has to happen in the designated area between October 2020 and October 2021.

If you have dreamed of doing a public art or placemaking project in Brooklyn, this is an amazing opportunity! If you are a local artist, cultural producer, organization, really anyone interested in placemaking, I highly suggest checking this out. Applying for these types of opportunities is a great way to engage in the local community. I will definitely be applying and I would love to hear if you are too!

Applications are due August 17, 2020.

Winners are announced likely in September and projects can start as soon as October 2020.

There are some specific parameters depending on if you are applying for public art/placemaking or improvements to cultural spaces that increase accessibility, so read through the application & details carefully. They also have this helpful spreadsheet of potential sites, which I plotted in the map above.
