Last weekend Ana Victoria Calderón came to the studio to lead a Creative Watercolor Master Class. We’ve been a fan of Ana ever since we took her Skillshare class Modern Watercolor Techniques, so we were very excited that she could come to the studio and share her new book ‘Creative Watercolor’. We had a great time learning from her, getting personalized instruction, and practicing her unique techniques.

We started the class by sharing a bit about ourselves, our experience with watercolor, and our own personal watercolor tools. Ana encouraged us all to bring what we already have so she could help us use our own tools. She also set up a magic supply table with her favorite watercolors, sparkles, stickers, and pens.

Together, we worked through exercises from Ana’s book and practiced techniques with Ana’s guidance. Then, we created our own projects on greeting cards and embellished them with speciality items like gold leaf flakes or sparkles.

I spotted some really cool watercolors in the room! I learned about Kremer’s make your own watercolor classes (which I must try soon) and Hydra Colour’s gorgeous and fun watercolor sets. We also chatted about being a creative, collecting watercolor supplies, and making time to make.

Everyone created beautiful work and it was clear that while there were beginners in the class, everyone had talent and came ready to create. I was so impressed with the quality of the final projects! Even the warm up practices were amazing.

The four-hour workshop went by extremely fast. We were in the watercolor zone.

We’re so thankful we could host Ana and very happy to have such a fantastic group of students!
