SARIM, Belonging, ceramics, and Maui watercolors coming soon
A few months ago I worked through the Artist Residency in Motherhood toolkit and wrote out my aspirations to do an artist residency in motherhood. I was very excited for my start date, which was one month ago. One of my ways to stay accountable is to blog every week. This is my first blog post.
Being a mom is hard and everyone knows that. Becoming a mom and figuring out childcare, self care, finances, relationships, working with clients and in the studio, and trying to keep your baby happy and healthy feels almost impossible some days but I am figuring it out.
Right now my sister is watching my baby and I am feeling rushed to write something so I can finally complete my first blog post. I’m aiming to post a weekly studio update starting now! I feel like I’ve not done any work, but that is not true. In October alone, I’ve had my work installed in an exhibition, worked on my new medium (ceramics), reviewed watercolors I did during a recent trip to Maui (which I will be mounting, sharing, and selling soon!), and started client work on art projects that I research and curate for public spaces.
I kicked this month off with dropping off my artwork to be a part of a three-person show at the Old Stone House. Belonging is a contemporary visual art exhibition highlighting 3 Brooklyn artists (Kimberly Bush, Stephanie Eche and Traci Johnson) who create work with fiber, cloth, thread and other textiles. The show is up at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn and curated by Grace R. Freedman of Why Not Art. I’m very happy to be a part of this show and I hope you can come see our work! You can view the artwork online and purchase here.
Here’s a photo of my Artist Residency in Motherhood plan. I hope you’ll follow along with me as I figure out how to be an art momma and business lady without losing my mind. Below that are some recent ceramics I just got from the kiln and my watercolors in progress while on a recent trip to Maui, Hawaii.
