Recap: Block Printing Workshop in Reston

Distill Creative’s Reston Chapter had a lot of fun last Wednesday carving blocks at the beautiful Kalypso’s at historic Lake Anne.

Several folks had brought along some ideas and sketches, including one person who even brought in some twigs and leaves for inspiration! 

After some history of xylography (blockprinting!) and some tips on designing for negative space, we quickly got to work creating beetle, maze, flower, and bird designs.  A few folks came with their friends and neighbors, but we all left with some new acquaintances and some new skills. 

We traded tips on hatching, how to use the tools, and we oohed and aahed as each new block’s design was revealed on the page.  It was a great time to spend out of the house on a cold night!
