Outdoor Winter Date Night Ideas

I live in New York City, but I think you can find similar activities near you, wherever you are. If you're in a warmer climate, save these tips for your next winter!

Grab a warm beverage to go and walk to your local park.

Make sure to check park hours as some close earlier in the winter, but many stay open, like Prospect Park (open until 1am).

A Theorem: Remembered by Jacob M Fisher at Lightscape at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Visit your local botanical garden or zoo.

Many botanical gardens and zoos have nighttime light exhibitions up right now. Some have ended, but some are still up. The one downside of this activity is that is can add up -- once you get your ticket, hot chocolate, s'more kit. Here’s my review of Lightscape that was recently up at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Find a fire pit near you.

Lots of bars and commercial areas have fire pits for the public. We are lucky to be very close to Industry City, which is where we made s'mores on New Year's Eve. If you have a backyard, you can get your own fire pit and spend sometime cozy outside!

Go on a long walk in search of public art!

There's probably some public art near you -- do a google search and see what you can find!

Some resources:

Night time bike ride.

If in NYC, you can rent a bike with CityBike, which comes with lights.

Find an outdoor silent disco party in a park.

I used to think these were really cheesy, but I stumbled upon one in Prospect Park recently and it looked like a fun thing to do, especially during a COVID winter.

Daytime date: Find a cemetery near you.

What's more romantic than a stroll with the dead? I love walking around Green Wood cemetery -- if you're expecting it's also a fun way to get some baby name ideas. This is free!

Daytime date: Bundle up and take a hike.

You can find hiking trails that you can access via public transportation in this post by Secret NYC and this post by Urban Outdoors.

Me leading a vision board workshop at WeWork back in 2017 (my now husband is in the bottom left).

Stay indoors date: Have a vision board session with your partner.

I met my now husband at a Vision Board workshop I was leading at WeWork when I used to host cocktails+craft workshops. You can download my vision board guide. I also suggest making an Irish coffee or Mexican hot chocolate to sip while you are cutting and pasting.

What are your favorite outdoor date activities?
