Art Inventory, Art and Health, and Creative Career with Elysian Koglmeier - Ep 26

This week on First Coat we have Elysian Koglmeier, Head of Growth for Artwork Archive. In this episode we discuss the importance of art in health care settings, best practices for keeping an inventory for your artwork, and how to develop a creative career. Elysian shares tips on how to use Artwork Archive for public art, whether you are an artist, art collector, or institution. She also shares her experience as a mother managing her career and health of her family.

We recorded this episode in early 2022.

Update: there was no artwork in my laboring room, that I can remember, but there was artwork in my recovery room (by Lara Atallah). I’ve also started using Artwork Archive to maintain records of my own artwork and it has been really helpful.

Elysian McNiff Koglmeier is Head of Growth for Artwork Archive, an online art inventory management system for artists, collectors and organizations. Growing up with a father as an art therapist and a mother who dedicated her career to art education, Elysian has always been passionate about the creative process and the importance of empowering artists and cultural institutions.

She has pursued this passion both in the public and private sector. She started her career in museums (Middlebury College Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), ran New England Foundation for the Arts' public art program, served as curator for Brown University and RISD, and contributed to publications such as Art New England, Art Business News, and Public Art Review.

A move out west brought her to Craftsy (now Bluprint) in Denver where she produced online art classes and managed partnerships for a startup that created online educational opportunities for enthusiastic makers. She now works with artists, collectors and collecting institutions within her role at Artwork Archive

Arts and health became very personal for Elysian when her son, Odin, was born with a rare genetic syndrome – Treacher Collins Syndrome – in 2018. Since Odin's birth, Elysian has served the arts and health communities as a member of the Arts Selection Committee for Children's Hospital Colorado and a board member for the National Organization of Arts in Health.

She received her BA in History from Middlebury College and her MA in Public Humanities from Brown University.
